AFTER stabbing his live-in partner dead, a man tried to kill himself by slashing his throat in Pasig City shortly before dawn on Monday.
Milet Libantino died on the spot after her partner, Jorge Tabada, stabbed her repeatedly in the body and slashed her throat using a kitchen knife around 3:30 a.m. on Monday. The couple lived in a house owned by Tabada’s aunt in Ilugin, Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
An hour after he killed Libantino, Tabada attacked two barangay security officers who accosted him in nearby Barangay Palatiw. He was found minutes later sprawled on the pavement with a self-inflicted throat wound.
Case investigator PO3 Rodelio Olalia of the Pasig police’s criminal investigation unit said they have yet to determine Tabada’s motive in killing Libantino.
He noted, however, that minutes before the attack, Tabada’s aunt Teresita Villanueva overheard the couple having a heated argument. She later saw her nephew stabbing the victim.
Olalia said that Tabada immediately escaped, bringing with him the 10-inch knife he used to kill Libantino.
Around 4:30 a.m. in Barangay Palatiw, security officers Dino Sumulong and Jean Mar Ancano were patrolling the area when they saw the suspect walking about with a towel over his head. When they called his attention and approached him, Tabada suddenly lunged at them with a knife, leaving both men injured.
Olalia said that the two barangay watchmen were brought to Pasig City General Hospital by concerned citizens who informed them that Tabada had slit his throat a few minutes after the attack.
He was taken to the hospital where he remained under observation although charges of murder and direct assault were being readied against him.
