The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is expected to proclaim all the 12 winning senators next week.

According to Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, the Comelec will still wait for the results of the special elections to be held in some parts of Visayas and Mindanao today before they could proclaim the winning senators.

She said the Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, could proclaim the winners either on May 17 or May 19.

A total of 19,791 voters are expected to cast their ballots in special elections in 14 towns and 55 clustered precincts on Saturday.

The Comelec cited security concerns, lack of official ballots and wrong delivery of official ballots as among the reasons for the poll postponement.

Under the Omnibus Election Code, elections should be rescheduled not later than 30 days from the date of the election, which was held on Monday. TVJ
