ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Antique Gov. Exequiel Javier was voted out of office on Monday, his first electoral defeat in nearly three decades in politics.
The provincial board of canvassers proclaimed Vice Gov. Rhodora Cadiao as the new governor Tuesday evening.
Cadiao (National Unity Party) garnered 131,203 votes while Javier (Liberal Party) got 99,881 votes or a margin of 31,322 votes.
Cadiao’s running mate Edgar Denosta was also proclaimed vice governor defeating Victor Condez (running mate of Javier) and independent candidate Eduardo Fortaleza.
Javier’s son Antique Rep. Paolo Everardo Javier (LP) was re-elected with 116,435 votes. His closest rival Raymundo Roquero (United Nationalist Alliance) had 85,087 votes.
