MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte—The dominance of the Mercados in Southern Leyte continues.
Gov. Roger Mercado will switch places with his brother, Rep. Damian Mercado after both scored landslide victories in their respective races.
Roger’s winning margin was almost the same number of votes received by his opponent –former St. Bernard Mayor Rico Rentuza.
He won 111,340 votes while Rentuza only got 56,882, or a margin of 54,458 votes.
Damian, who got 108,190 votes, also trounced his opponent, Vice Gov. Sheffered Tan, who only garnered 68,000 votes.
Roger’s son, Nacional Mercado, will also be the next mayor of Maasin after he defeated incumbent Mayor Gerry Dator in the race.
Nacional, president of the Association of Barangay Captain Federation in Southern Leyte, got 27,946 votes against Dator’s 10,811 votes.
Roger’s son-in-law, Leoncio Uy Jr., also won as board member in the second district.
