SORSOGON, Philippines – Will Heart Evangelista throw her hat in the political arena soon?

The wife of defeated vice presidential candidate Francis “Chiz” Escudero  laughed the notion off.

“Wala akong planong pumasok sa politics. Malayong mangyari yun,” she said after the senator conceded defeat in the vice presidential race on Tuesday.

(I don’t have any plans of entering politics. It’s not happening.)

Chiz’s mother Evelina, unopposed for first district representative of Sorsogon, uncle Kruni, who ran for vice governor, and cousin Jun, who eyed a seat on the provincial board, all won their races in the 2016 elections.

Their victories however don’t appeal much to Evangelista.

“If you want to help, you can help. But politics is very messy. I’m ok with what I have,” she said.

Evangelista had a first-hand look of how tough politics was when she joined her husband on the campaign trail.

She observed how brutal the fight could become for anyone vying for a government position.

“With this campaign, I think it’s very different with the others. It’s very wild in social media,” she said. “I guess it’s a blessing that I’ve been an actress for 18 years so the bashing and the mudslinging is no different.”

With the elections coming to a close, Evangelista is just looking forward to quieter times with her husband.

“Before when I said I’m going to get married, I thought my life is going to be peaceful. But then, I ended up with a politician so it slightly got a little complicated,” she said. “Now, I look forward to a more quiet life. I’m very ok. I can have a quiet life and I’m happy.”
