ILAGAN CITY, Isabela — An Isabela town mayoral candidate was stricken ill before voting started on Monday.

Angelito Bernardo, a councilor of the coastal Palanan town who was seeking the mayoral post there, lapsed into a coma after he was taken to a hospital on the eve of Monday’s elections.

He has been confined at the intensive care unit of the Isabela United Medical Doctors Center (IUDMC) in Cauayan City since then, the Philippine Daily Inquirer learned.

Bernardo is the candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition against Vice Mayor Pacita Atanacio, an independent bet, and Rufino Gonzales of Lakas.  SFM
