Village official nabbed for ‘vote buying’ in CDO

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Authorities apprehended a barangay (village) official here for allegedly engaging in vote-buying on the eve of the May 9 local and national elections, police said Monday.

According to a report forwarded by the National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) local chapter to reporters, police arrested Salvador Misca, 47, and the incumbent village chair of Barangay Pigsag-an.

Misca, the report said, was arrested by the combined elements of the Lumbia police station and Tactical Operations Group-10 (TOG-10) who conducted mobile patrol in the area.

It added the suspect was caught in the act of vote-buying at the time he was arrested.

Confiscated from his possession were sample ballots and election paraphernalia and cash amounting to around P41,000, the report said.

Misca’s political affiliation was not immediately determined, but sources said he belonged to a member of a local political party.  SFM
