Rain drenched ballots in Davao Occidental but voting continues

In Malita, Davao Occidental, Ma. Febes Barlaan, the provincial election supervisor, said the heavy rain that fell on the town the night before nearly spoiled the elections as ballots got wet.

But Barlaan said the problem was addressed by drying the ballots using electric fans.

Lt. Col. Ronnie Babac, commander of the Army’s 73rd Infantry Battalion, said Davao Occidental, whose residents were also voting for provincial officials for the first time, remained peaceful as of 11 a.m.

Babac said they deployed a sufficient number of troops to ensure that the elections would be peaceful.
