LAOAG CITY, Philippines — Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s 21-year-old son voted for the first time on Monday and it seemed no walk in the park.
Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos cast his vote with his mother Liza and aunt Aimee at the Calayab Elementary School in this city at 7:30 a.m.
While he was filling out the ballot, he stood up and asked one of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) for a new one. A video by INQUIRER.net showed a BEI telling Marcos that they won’t be able to give him a new ballot unless they are the ones who made a mistake.
“Hindi po namin yun pwede i-cancel…Ituloy mo na lang sir. Kung kasalanan namin papalitan namin, pero kung kayo po hindi,” the BEI told Marcos, pertaining to his ballot.
After the younger Marcos left, one of the BEIs told INQUIRER.net that the senator’s son shaded two circles for president. The BEI clarified that it will invalidate only the president position but not the whole ballot.
Sandro denies
In an interview with reporters, Marcos denied that he encountered problems with his ballot, saying that he was just nervous because it was his first time to vote but everything turned out well.
He said his reason for approaching a BEI was because he inadvertently folded his ballot.
“I was just a little bit nervous. It was my first time voting so I just wanted to make sure I got everything right,” he explained.
“I thought folding it would invalidate it but apparently It wouldn’t so I was fine. I was nervous. I didn’t wanna mess up,” he said.
The younger Marcos joined his father’s return to Manila before noon.
“I’m glad I was able to come home to be able to exercise my right,” he said.
