Gunmen shoot houses of Bulacan village chiefs

CITY OF MALOLOS — Unidentified armed men on Friday evening shot  the houses of two village chiefs and a businessman, known to be supporting a mayoralty candidate in Baliuag town in Bulacan, a belated police report said.

The armed men shot  the homes of Joey Antonio, village chief of Barangay (village) San Roque, village chief Ariston Mercado of Barangay Paitan, and businessman Caloy Garcia of Santo Cristo. No one was injured.

Mayoralty candidate Ferdie Estrella of the Nationalist People’s Coalition denounced the attack on his supporters.

“I condemn this systematic shooting of their houses. We in Baliuag can never comprehend this type of harassment, intimidation, abuse, and threat. This incident saddened me and we cannot simply ignore this,” Estrella said in a statement.

Police are investigating the attacks. JE/rga
