Police take measures to ensure peaceful vote in Compostela Valley

TAGUM CITY — Preparations to ensure safe and peaceful elections have  been put in place in Compostela Valley as of Sunday, and the 700-strong Compostela Valley police have been placed on alert, Senior Supt. Albert Ignatius Ferro, the provincial police chief, said.

“We are OK here and very much ready for the election on Monday,” Ferro said.

Contrary to circulating text messages about supposed attempts to rig the elections and harassment by unknown persons in the province, Ferro said that “all’s been well in Compostela Valley” and its 11 towns.

He said there was also no truth to reports that the province has been placed under the control of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Ferro said they were still validating reports of vote-buying incidents in the province “as we have yet to receive a formal complaint regarding these supposed irregularities.”

Allegations of vote-buying have been circulating on social media with supposed cash-in-sample-ballots making rounds on social network. Additional report from Frinston Lim, Inquirer Mindanao/JE/rga
