Ten vehicular crashes occur in Cordillera on same day

BAGUIO CITY — A 17-year-old boy died in one of ten vehicular accidents that were recorded in the upland Cordilleras on Saturday.

Crispin Binay-og was hurled down a 14-meter deep ravine after crashing his motorcycle into a mountain wall at Sitio Latang, Calutit village in Mountain Province capital Bontoc at 2 a.m.

He was the only fatality in the series of accidents–three of which took place in Mt. Province, two each in Ifugao, Abra, and Kalinga provinces, and one in the summer capital, according to the Cordillera police office.

Binay-og was on his way to Tabuk City when he crashed. He died while undergoing treatment at the Bontoc General Hospital.

In Calutit village at 3 p.m., a pick-up truck crashed into a parked sports utility vehicle, but no one was injured.

At 4 p.m. in Bontoc’s Samuki village, a public utility jeepney fell on its side as it attempted to negotiate a sharp curve, injuring 16 passengers who are currently being treated at the hospital.

At 3 a.m. in Abra, a tricycle driver struck two senior citizens along Taft Street, Zone 5 village in the capital, Bangued. The victims were rushed to the Seares Medical Hospital for treatment and were subsequently transferred to Vigan City for further examination. The tricycle driver has been arrested.

At 9:15 p.m. in Bangued, a tricycle collided with a motorcycle along the Abra-Ilocos Sur road in Palo village, hurting one of the tricycle’s four passengers, who was treated at the Seares Memorial Hospital.

At 5:30 p.m. in Ifugao, a tricycle crashed into a parked motorcycle along the road side in Kiangan town’s Tuplace village, but no one was hurt.

At midnight in Ifugao capital, Lagawe, a tricycle struck an SUV along the national road in Cudog village, injuring the tricycle’s lone passenger who was treated at the Ifugao Provincial Hospital.

At 8 a.m. in Kalinga’s Tabuk City, a tricycle crashed onto a pick-up truck along the Tabuk-Bontoc road in Bulanao village, injuring the tricycle driver who was brought to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital. At midnight in Kalinga’s Pasil town, a pick-up truck crashed into an electric post along the junction of Cagaluan Gate.

In Baguio City, a motorcycle collided with a taxicab along Lower Magsaysay Avenue. The driver of the motorcycle was brought to the Baguio General Hospital Medical Center for treatment. JE
