2 killed, 9 wounded in Lanao del Sur ambush

MARAWI CITY—At least two persons were killed while 9 others were wounded in an ambush in Barangay Tatayawan in Tamparan, Lanao del Sur, the police reported on Saturday.

Tamparan police chief, Insp. Achmad Sarip Bornawan Sarico, said the victims were among a group of people who were traveling on three public utility jeeps from Cagayan de Oro for Lumbayanague town.

Sarico identified one of those killed as Jamel Cena Benito of Munai, Lanao del Norte. The other slain victim, a pregnant woman, remained unidentified, he said.

Those injured were Clinton Evangelista, Edgar Merfuentes, Eddie Gargar, Sadik Andul Carel, Mario Capian, Johnny Benito, Pendatun Benito, Nasem Benito and Soki Alim.

They were brought to a government hospital here, Sarico said.

Sarico said the police were still investigating the incident and trying to determine if the victims were flying voters as some people had suspected.
