Robredo quells Marcos’ theory, tells rival to fight fairly
Liberal Party (LP) vice presidential bet Leni Robredo on Saturday has a plea for rival Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.: fight fair and square.
“Pakiusap ko lang kay Senator Marcos, lumaban ka ng patas (I am appealing to Senator Marcos, fight fairly),” Robredo told reporters at a press briefing at a Pasig City restaurant few hours before the LP’s “miting de avance” in Quezon City.
Robredo made this appeal after Marcos claimed that the LP has a “Plan B” if Mar Roxas, the party standard-bearer who is still trailing behind Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, would not win the election.

In an interview on Friday in Tacloban City, Marcos told the media that the ruling LP will ensure Robredo’s victory if Duterte wins. He said the LP will push for Duterte’s impeachment so that a party member will take over the presidency.

If Marcos plans to convert supporters of Duterte against Robredo, she asked the senator not to spread lies.
“Kung liligawan niya ang supporters ni Mayor Duterte, ‘wag naman sana niya ako bibiktimahin ng pagsisinungaling,” she said.
(If he is counting on the votes of Mayor Duterte’s supporters, I ask him to spare me from his lies.)
She stressed that even if Marcos’ claims were true, she would not let the party use her for election cheating.
“Hindi all the time agree ako sa decision ng LP. Over time napakita ko na napakaindependent-minded ko. Napatanuyan ko naman na walang pwedeng gumamit sa akin (I don’t agree with the decisions of LP all the time. Over time, I have shown that I am independent-minded and that I will not let anyone use me for their own motives),” she said.
Robredo also told Marcos told stop resorting to black propaganda to pull her down.
The Camarines Sur lawmaker’s numbers dramatically rose from once percent since the day she declared her vice presidential bid to 30 percent, overtaking or tying Marcos in the surveys.
“Noong hindi pa ako number one, wala namang ganito eh. Noong nag number one ako, the following day sobrang daming ridiculous black propaganda,” she said.
(This did not exist when I was trailing. When I became number one, the following day, a lot of ridiculous black propaganda came out.)
“Buti sana kung may kahit konting basis ng truth eh wala naman (It would have been fine had they come with a hint of basis of truth, but they did not),” she said.
Robredo lamented that she and her volunteers from all walks of life worked hard to raise her numbers without spreading lies to destroy Marcos’ image. IDL
