BATANGAS CITY—A reelectionist councilor in Tanauan City in Batangas province was killed while his security aide was wounded when they were shot by a lone gunman while the official was meeting with leaders of a tricycle drivers’ group in his city on Friday night, police said.
Senior Insp. Mary Ann Torres, Batangas provincial police information officer, said Tanauan Councilor Epimaco Magpantay, 64, died while being taken to the Daniel Mercado Medical Center in Tanauan. His aide, Joel Garcia, 42, was wounded and taken to the same hospital.
Torres said Magpantay, a lawyer, and Garcia were attending a tricycle drivers’ meeting in Barangay (village) Darasa, Tanauan at 7:15 p.m when the gunman attacked them.
