A grassfire hit an empty lot near Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Pasay City on Thursday afternoon, briefly causing alarm among airport personnel.

F03 Luisito de Guzman of the city fire department said the grassfire started in front of the terminal’s fuel department at 3:39 p.m. and was put out by firefighters at 4:50 p.m.

The cause of the fire remained unknown at press time but De Guzman said it may be due to a cigarette, noting that people pass through the area.

But he noted that the fire was far from the Naia building itself, although employees feared that it might reach the fuel containers.

The fire also did not disrupt Naia operations, he added.
