CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—With only a few days to go before the local and national elections, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s camp is optimistic he will become the country’s next president given his two-figure lead in nationwide surveys.

Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III, president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), said it was unlikely that Duterte would lose the race considering his constant top position in surveys.

Just recently, Duterte, the PDP-Laban standard-bearer, maintained his 33-percent rating over other candidates.

Speaking to reporters here, Pimentel said Duterte’s lead would translate to about five million votes that would ensure his victory come May 9.

In Mindanao alone, PDP-Laban foresees that 80 percent of the island’s voting population will go for Duterte, according to Pimentel. RC
