BANSALAN, Davao del Sur – Unidentified armed men on Tuesday ambushed and killed the village chair of Altavista here and wounded his companion, police reported.
Edison Alisoso was instantly killed while his companion, tribal leader Emilito Angga, was critically injured following the 1 p.m. incident in Barangay Marber.
Police said Alisoso and Angga were on a motorcycle and approaching Kilometer 82 when they were fired upon by two armed men, who fled on a motorcycle.
Mayor Edwin Reyes condemned the incident, saying the two victims were his supporters.
Reyes, who is running as vice mayor in this year’s election, said Alisoso and Angga came from his house, where they had a luncheon meeting.
During their meeting, Reyes said Alisoso had spoken of threats because of his political conviction.
Police said they were investigating the incident. CDG/rga
