Human-rights groups troop to DoJ for swift resolution on Fr. Tentorio’s death

MANILA, Philippines—Hustisya and other human-rights groups trooped to the Department of Justice on Tuesday, urging for the swift resolution of the murder of Italian priest Fr. Fausto Tentorio.

Hustisya secretary general Cristina Guevarra appealed to the DOJ to “leave no stone unturned” in the investigation on Tentorio’s death. She said that “justice should be served swiftly” for the priest who has been supporting communities in Mindanao since 1978.

DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to look into the Italian priest’s murder.

Tentorio, a member of the Pontifical Institute of Foreign Missions (PIME) was a parish priest in Arakan town, North Cotabato.

He was shot eight times by a still unidentified gunman while boarding his vehicle inside Our Mother of Perpetual Help compound in the town of Arakan Monday morning.

Tentorio was the third member of the Vatican-run PIME to have been killed since 1985 in Mindanao.
