At least 14 people, including two doctors, were killed after an air strike hit a hospital in the Syrian city of Aleppo, Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) or Doctors Without Borders said on Thursday.
According to MSF, at least two doctors were killed in an air strike which reduced al-Quds hospital to rubble.
Other air strikes also hit the neighborhood surrounding the said hospital.
In a statement, MSF head of mission in Syria, Muskilda Zancada, lamented the attack on the hospital.
“MSF categorically condemns this outrageous targeting of yet another medical facility in Syria,” Zancada said.
“This devastating attack has destroyed a vital hospital in Aleppo, and the main referral center for pediatric care in the area. Where is the outrage among those with the power and obligation to stop this carnage?” she said.
The al-Quds hospital was a 34-bed hospital with a full-time staff of eight doctors and 28 nurses. It is also the main referral center for pediatrics in strife-torn Aleppo. MSF has been donating medical supplies to the said hospital since 2012.
The International Committee of the Red Cross said that Aleppo is on the brink of a humanitarian disaster. The escalation of attacks is said to be brought by reports that the Syrian army is planning for a major offensive in the said city.
Aside from al-Quds, other medical facilities have been destroyed in the city in recent weeks. Five rescue workers from Syrian Civil Defense Organization have been killed. RAM
