Trillanes laughs off P500-M check: It’s fake

“A fabrication and  blatant disinformation,” San Miguel Corp. (SMC) said in a statement, referring to the P500-million Banco de Oro (BDO) check it had allegedly issued to Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.

A picture of the BDO check started circulating on social media after Trillanes claimed that presidential aspirant Rodrigo Duterte has a P227 million bank deposit that he did not declare in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth  (SALN).

BDO issued a certification as well, saying the P500-million check was fake, while Trillanes accused Duterte supporters of being behind it.

“The Dutertards fabricated that lie,” the senator said in a text message. “But at least (the fake check) was disproven immediately showed that (Duterte supporters) are just a bunch of propagandists and blind followers who are promoting and defending Duterte based on lies.”

According to the SMC statement, “(t)his is nothing more than a fabrication and a blatant disinformation. SMC did not have an account in the said bank branch and had never issued such check to Senator Trillanes.”

The company also cited a certification issued by BDO that said it does not have a record of a (SMC) account in its Tandang Sora branch. The account number used in the check does not exist in the bank’s system and records, the BDO certification said.
