BATANGAS CITY — A barangay (village) chairman in Batangas province was shot and killed by a lone gunman in front of a burger joint in Bauan town on Thursday, police said.

Senior Supt. Arcadio Ronquillo, Batangas provincial police director, said village chief Gilbert Alvar was parking his motorcycle in front of the Brocks Burger on Binay Street in Barangay 3, Bauan at 12:50 a.m. when he was attacked.

Ronquillo said Alvar was taken to the Dr. Mario Bejasa General Hospital but he died while undergoing treatment.

The gunman fled on board a motorcycle driven by another man.  SFM
