Members of the University of the Philippines – Samahan ng Mag-aaral ng Komunikasyon’s (UP-SAMASKOM) have organized a theatrical enactment entitled ‘Live A.I.D.S. HA-LOL-AN’ that featured colorful and festive spoofs of presidential and vice presidential candidates.
In UP-SAMASKOM and online news site Palabuzz Feed’s Facebook pages, the impersonation of Liberal Party vice presidential candidate Ma. Leonor ”Leni” Robredo turned out to be the most viral skits, garnering 635,000 views, 2,400 comments, 11,800 likes, and 15,500 shares.
In the skit, ‘Robredo’ desires to deliver development to the ‘laylayan’ (hem or countryside). “Nais po naming i-angat ang mga nasa laylayan, bigyan po natin sila ng ibang sangkap, at ‘yan ay isang cup of rice.”
(We want to improve the lives of those in the countryside, let us give them another ingredient, a cup of rice.)
The comedy performers acted our their lines and roles with a vivid brand of satire. For instance, a group of students enacted a parody of the last presidential debate – impersonators of veteran news anchors Mike Enriquez, Luchi Cruz – Valdez, and Karen Davila ‘hosted’ the presidential debate in a game show style. The clip earned 125,000 views, 6,260 shares, 515 comments, and 2,200 shares.
Another skit was cast by Manny Pacquiao’s impersonator while another skit featured the viral dance number from senatorial hopeful Alma Moreno.
