CEBU CITY, Philippines—At least five police officers including Senior Supt. Benjamin Santos, Cebu City police chief, joined Wednesday’s local absentee voting which ends on Friday.
Senior Insp. David Senor, Cebu City police chief of operations, said only seven policemen from Cebu City were approved by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to join in the absentee voting.
Police, soldiers and media practitioners, who would be assigned to other places during the May 9 elections, were allowed to vote provided they applied for and secured Comelec approval. One of them is Santos, who hails from Luzon.
Another police official, Senior Insp. Homobono Sayon, a native of Bohol province and is stationed at the Mambaling police precinct, also voted on Wednesday.
Senor served as chairman of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) for the police while PO3 Alvin Comeros served as poll clerk and PO2 Scarlit Batandolo, as BEI member.
Those who joined in the absentee voting can only vote for candidates running for president, vice president, senator and party-list group. RAM
