Death Squad probe continues but breakthrough still elusive – DOJ
THE Department of Justice on Tuesday said investigation into the vigilante group Davao Death Squad (DDS) that purportedly has links to Davao City Mayor and presidential aspirant Rodrigo Duterte is still ongoing.
Acting Justice Secretary Emmanuel Caparas said the DDS remains under the department’s “radar.”
“There are agencies actively looking at that,” he said at a press conference.
DDS has been tagged for the summary executions of 1,020 to 1,040 people between 1998 and 2008.
Former Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said the DOJ has a witness, a former DDS, who will pin the supposed killings on Duterte.
However, Caparas said he cannot say that there is already a breakthrough on the matter.
