SAN PEDRO CITY—The Remullas of Cavite province attested to the strong and continuing political ties with the Revilla clan, despite the candidacy of a relative who is challenging the mayoral bid of Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla in Bacoor City.
“We are allied with the Revilla family and we are not supporting any other candidate for mayor in Bacoor, except for Lani Mercado-Revilla,” said Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla on Saturday.
Jesus Crispin, a former Cavite representative, substituted for his brother and incumbent Cavite Gov. Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla in the gubernatorial race.
Last year, Juanito Victor resigned from the Nacionalista Party to join Vice President Jejomar Binay’s United Nationalist Alliance as one of its spokespersons.
A relative of the Remullas, Rolando Remulla of the National Unity Party, is running against Mercado-Revilla of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats for Bacoor mayor.
Mercado-Revilla, an actress, is the wife of detained Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. The other candidate for Bacoor City mayor is Edwin Malvar of the Liberal Party.
In a telephone interview on Saturday, Jesus Crispin confirmed that Rolando is a “very distant relative and [a] mere namesake.”
Jesus Crispin said family members had even tried to dissuade Rolando, a Cavite provincial board member, from running against Mercado-Revilla, knowing that Bacoor is the Revilla family’s bailiwick.
He said the Remulla family’s relationship with the Revillas “is at its strongest point.”
“There is absolutely no truth to the allegation that the Remulla-Revilla alliance in Cavite has fallen apart,” Jesus Crispin said. Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon, and Marlon Ramos in Manila
