DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan — If one of his children is into drugs, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte would kill him.
During the third and final presidential debate at the University of Pangasinan here on Sunday, Duterte did not flinch when he threatened to kill any family member involved in illegal drugs.
But according to him, none of his children is into illegal drugs, one of the scourges he had fought as city mayor.
Asked if he would kill if he became president, he said, “If one is afraid to die and afraid to kill, do not be president.”
Duterte believes he is a good example to the youth. “I restored public order in my city and everybody is safe,” he said during the debate.
Should he be elected president, Vice President Jejomar Binay said he would not care if Duterte were jailed or not.
Binay also said he would not try to have Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, whom he had criticized for filing criminal charges against his family, impeached under his watch.
“I want to be known as a healing and unifying president,” Binay said.
He said he would go after private armed groups. But asked about his endorsement of the mayoral bid in Shariff Aquak town, Maguindanao province, of Sajid Ampatuan, who has been out on bail for the Maguindanao massacre in 2009, he said Ampatuan was not present during the killings. SFM
