THE appointment of a “traffic terminator” and construction of a “subway” system were just among Senator Grace Poe’s proposed solutions to the worsening traffic problem in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
Poe admitted that solving the traffic problem is not an easy task but it could be done starting with road clearing and widening.
“Kailangan may disiplina, hindi po personal parking lot ng ating mga kababayan ang mga kalsada. Umpisahan doon, i-enforce ‘yung batas..,” she said during the third and final presidential debate in Pangasinan.
The government, she said, should also complete all pending projects such as the Sky Luzon Skyway, North Luzon connector, MRT7, and the LRT extension to Cavite.
Poe said a long-term solution to the problem is a subway system like in other countries.
“Alam mo, posibleng magkaroon ng subway system e para mas mabilis ang biyahe. Kung sabi nila binabaha rito, e pero ‘yung subway sa ibang bansa sa ilalim ng karagatan dumadaan, kaya pwede dito,” she said.
She said there should also be MRT system not only in Metro Manila but also in Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and other parts of the country.
“Tapos ako’y mag-appoint ng isang Secretary na traffic terminator. Wala syang gagawin kundi babantayan ang batwat proyekto na matapos, right of way dapat mabilis na maibigay para hindi nakababad,” said Poe.
She said she has no particular person in mind yet on who should serve as “traffic terminator,” but said the person should have “engineering background” or have expertise in traffic.
