BINMALEY, Pangasinan – Vice President Jejomar Binay on Friday vouched for the reelection bid of Mayor Simplicio “Sammy” Rosario, who was an engineer for Makati projects when Binay was mayor.

In his speech before a packed plaza after a heavy downpour, Binay raised the hands of Rosario, who served as an engineer contractor in Makati when Binay was then mayor.

Rosario is the general manager of Jojalie Construction, a contractor in Makati during Binay’s term as mayor.

Rosario is now the reelectionist mayor of the municipality of Binmaley.

In introducing Binay, Rosario said he learned how to run the municipality from the way Binay ran Makati.

“Kung ibabalik niyo po ako na mayor, pakiusap ko po, isama niyo po ang taong makakatulong sa mamamayang Pilipino, lalu lalo na sa mga mahihirap na kagaya natin,” Rosario said in backing Binay’s presidential bid.

(If you will elect me again as mayor, I ask you, please let me be among the persons who can help the Filipino people, especially the poor like us.)

In his speech, Binay said he boosted the wealth of Makati since he was appointed officer-in-charge in 1986 by running the financial district like a business.

He said this principle of equating local governance to business management was the lesson he imparted to Rosario which enabled the latter to also apply the lessons of Makati in Binmaley.

“Kaya ko lang binabanggit sa inyo ito, kaya niyo nakitang maganda ang pamamahala ni Sammy rito sa Binmaley, kasi tinrato niya rin itong parang negosyo. Hindi niyo matatanggi na isa rin itong successful businessman,” Binay said.

(I am telling you this because you have witnessed the good governance of Sammy here in Binmaley because he treated it like a business. You cannot deny that he is also a successful businessman.)

“If you have a mayor who is successful businessman, walang tiyak na mangyayari po dun ay tamang pamamahala (you are sure to have proper governance),” he added.
