Ex-PCGG chief Sabio acquitted

04:00 AM April 21, 2016

A Division of the Sandiganbayan has acquitted former Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) chair Camilo S. Sabio of graft and malversation.

Sabio had been accused of pocketing ill-gotten wealth of the Marcos family worth almost P12 million.

In acquitting Sabio, the Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division on Wednesday cited “insufficiency of evidence engendering reasonable doubt.”

The resolution was penned by Associate Justice Maria Cristina Cornejo. Three other justices concurred: Jose Hernandez, Rodolfo A. Ponferrada and Michael Frederick Musngi.

In 2011, the Ombudsman filed charges against Sabio allegedly for misusing P10.35 million, which the PCGG received from sequestered firm Mid-Pasig Land Development Corp. Aries Joseph Hegina, INQUIRER.net
