Red takes solo lead in PDBC

RED/Uy Network snared the solo lead in the team standings after nipping Green/Natasha-MSE Patriots, 60-59 last Saturday at the start of the 2nd round of the Power Dealers Basketball Club (PDBC)-2011, inter-color basketball tournament at the Sacred Heart School covered court in Gen. Maxilom Ave., Cebu City.

Red jumped to a, 23-11 lead in the opening period with Fred Vitug and Jomer Mejias leading  the early assault, but the Green Patriots responded with an 18-11 run to trim its deficit to five, 29-34, at the half.

However, Red outscored Green, 16-13 in the third for an 8-point advantage, 50-42, going to the final quarter. Green managed to outscore Red, 17-8 in the fourth but failed to snatch the win.

Fred Vitug topped Red with a night-high 31 points while Clint Suelto added 15 markers. Skye Mercado and Francis Galendo paced Green with 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Earlier, Yellow/Royaled Power Dream trounced Blue/ABCD Byrhon Merchandise, 58-50, for its 3rd win in five games (3-2), while the latter fell to 1-4.

Yellow led from start to finish and put the match beyond Blue’s reach with a 25-12 rally in the second quarter for a commanding 13-point lead, 37-24 at the half.

Arnold De Asis and Mitchel Vergara led Yellow with 18 and 12 points, respectively, while Roly Maboles paced Blue with 18 markers.
