Learn a new language this summer at Tesda

GOT NOTHING to do this summer? Why not learn a new language or two?

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) is calling on students and young professionals to enroll in the agency’s free language courses and increase their chances of promoted or a job abroad.

For 100 hours, students may learn either basic Mandarin, Arabic or Spanish, as well as sharpen their mastery of English. And for 150 hours, students will learn basic Japanese. Apart from language course, the students will also learn about the culture of the country.

Tesda Director General Irene Isaac said the five courses offered at Tesda Language Skills Institutes nationwide were not only a worthwhile activity but would also help students to be more competitive.

“Graduates and workers with foreign language skills have a better chance of getting hired or getting promoted. Employees or applicants who have extra communication skills always have an edge,” Isaac said in a statement over the weekend.

Tesda’s language courses are offered in two sessions from Monday to Friday. Students who would like to enroll in the program must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.

Isaac said that it is their department’s hope that through these language courses, “Filipino students and workers will achieve world-class standard.”
