Cebu Queen City okays rescheduled UFL match

/ 06:42 AM October 18, 2011

CEBU City now has a chance to witness a match of the United Football League (UFL) via the United Football Cup 2011-2012.

This after the Cebu Queen City United (CQCU) formally accepted the decision of the UFL officials to its protest regarding the team’s cancelled match against Pachanga FC last Oct. 9 at the University of Makati (UMAK) football field.

In a letter last week, the UFL officials dismissed CQCU’s request to forfeit the match in their favor.

The UFL officials also downgraded the protest to a complaint.

To compensate the CQCU for its expenses for being an entry from out-of-town, the UFL officials offered to hold the rescheduled match in Cebu City .

“The United Football League acknowledges the circumstances that Cebu Queen City United FC was placed under given the resources wasted on their trip to Manila . The UFL will try and arrange on a best efforts basis that the rescheduled match be played in Cebu ,” according to its letter sent to the CQCU in reply to the protest.

CQCU, however, wanted to emphasize that they filed the protest mainly not because of the wasted resources incurred for their trip to Manila but more for the efforts of tournament director Cyril Dofitas and Richard Gannaban in trying to reschedule the match and have it push through on the same day but at a later time and a different venue.

“We thank the UFL for demonstrating its professionalism in resolving the issue at hand and we sincerely appreciate the best effort of the UFL to hold the rescheduled match in Cebu.  We will be awaiting in the coming days for the final schedule of the said match as the Cebu football community is eagerly looking forward to the game,” as stated in CQCU’s letter accepting UFL’s decision.

Dofitas earlier said that the match will be rescheduled towards the end of the eliminations so as not to disrupt the schedule of the tournament.

He also said in a text message that they will be meeting tomorrow regarding the holding of the rescheduled match in Cebu .  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
