DAVAO CITY—A senior military official has gone missing after going on a proficiency dive in a known tourist diving spot in the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte on Saturday.
Capt. Roda Leoncito, spokesperson of the military’s Eastern Mindanao Command, said they learned about the missing officer more than an hour after the command, along with the Naval Special Operations Unit, conducted proficiency diving at the Angel’s Cove in Talikod Island.
Search and rescue units were immediately deployed to find the missing official, the military spokesperson said.
“As of this time, we have a team from the Philippine Coast Guard, Naval Special Operations Unit. We also have a team from the Philippine Air Force search and rescue group doing aerial search along the shorelines of Talikod and Davao del Sur areas,” Leoncito said.
An Incident Management Team was also activated to oversee the rescue, Leoncito added.
The military refused to release the name of the missing official as they have are still communicating with his family.
