‘Miracle baby’ needs liver transplant
Shaila Micaella Castell was just less than a month old when she was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a rare liver disease that usually occurs in infants.
Shaila is now more than 8 months old and according to her mother, Sherrie Lyn, she needs to undergo surgery now.
In a phone interview with INQUIRER.net, Sherrie Lyn said they needed to raise at least P4 million for baby Shaila’s liver transplant in Taiwan before she celebrates her birthday on July 23. Sherrie Lyn said Taiwan had a high success rate for liver transplants.
“We already have about P800,000,” she said, still far from the P4 million required for the procedure.
Sherrie Lyn considers Shaila a “miracle baby.” Before Shaila was conceived, Sherrie Lyn said doctors told her that she had a small chance of getting pregnant after one of her ovaries was removed.
