Veteran journalist and former press secretary Rodolfo “Rod” Reyes, 80, passed away on Thursday, Radyo Inquirer 990AM reports.
The report said Reyes’ daughter, Theresa Alvarez, confirmed that the former secretary died due to complications brought about by a heart problem while at the Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa.
Reyes was the press secretary during the administrations of former presidents Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada.
Malacañang paid its respects to Reyes, with Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. praising him for being “a lifelong journalist who was deeply committed to his profession.”
“He is remembered kindly and respected highly by all those whose lives were touched by his humble and gentle ways. Our thoughts and prayers for his eternal repose go to his bereaved family,” Coloma said in a statement.
Before becoming press secretary, Reyes was most known as the Manila Times reporter who went undercover for a special report on Manila’s drug dens. CDG
