ILIGAN CITY, Philippines – Hundreds of supporters of Iligan City Mayor Celso Regencia have massed up outside the Iligan City Jail in Barangay Tipanoy here to show solidarity with the jailed mayor who was supposed to be brought to a court in Initao, Misamis Oriental, Monday morning.

They said Regencia’s life could be in danger if he was transported from Iligan to Initao.

People blocked the jail entrance with a dump truck and the road going to the prison with a bus.

The court hearing in Initao was for the petition for bail and arraignment, Regencia’s lawyer Demosthenes Plando said.

Regencia has been in jail for allegedly masterminding the December 2014 ambush on Iligan City Representative Vicente Belmonte in Misamis Oriental. Belmonte survived the attack.
