Marcos on political dynasties: Look beyond names

/ 07:03 PM April 10, 2016

Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. asked the public to look beyond the names of political families which rule the country and instead, analyze their public service record.

Asked on how he will keep tab on political dynasties despite the absence of an anti-political dynasty law in the country, Marcos emphasized the need to pass an anti-dynasty bill as provided for in the Constitution.

(It is true what is said about us here in the Philippines that we have here politicizing, that we have (an inter-generational phenomenon), there truly are political families. But the Constitution has mandated that we must pass an anti-dynasty bill.)

The son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos said that the public should evaluate the public service record of political families.

Tingnan niyo kung sino talaga ang may ginawa,” the senator said.

(If there is anyone here who belongs to a political dynasty, forget about out names and look at our public service record. Look at how long our experience has been. Look at who has really done something.)

To prove his stance against political dynasties, Marcos said that he was an author of the Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) Reform Act where an anti-political dynasty provision was inserted.

(I am among the first to author an anti-political dynasty provision in any of the laws here in the Philippines.)
