SPD pre-election crackdown: 17 arrested, 19 guns seized
A 10-day campaign by the Southern Police District resulted in the arrest of 17 people who yielded a total of 19 unlicensed firearms, the SPD reported on Saturday.
Supt. Jenny Tecson, the district command’s spokesperson, said nine of the arrests were in Taguig City, three in Makati, two each in Paranaque and Las Piñas, and one in Pasay City.
The seized firearms included M-16 rifles, shotguns and pistols, with 11 of them confiscated in Taguig.
The crackdown was conducted from March 28 to April 6 in the cities covered by the SPD.
“These arrests were the result of the SPD’s continuous police interventions such as checkpoints, beat patrol, followup operations, among others,” Tecson said, adding that the campaign will intensify heading into the May 9 elections. Kristine Felisse Mangunay
