CEBU CITY — Four packs of suspected illegal drugs were seized from a woman who was about to give birth inside the delivery room of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).

Russel Niebres, acting information officer of the regional Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7), said the 31-year-old woman, a resident of A. Lopez, was admitted to the hospital at 11:55 a.m. after she started having labor pains.

Niebres said the nurses were helping her change clothes when four sachets of drugs were recovered from her clothes. Niebres said they were temporarily withholding the woman’s name who had just given birth.

Three PDEA officers have been assigned to guard her until the hospital issues a clearance for discharge. She faces charges of illegal possession of illegal drugs. The packs of drugs were turned over to the police.

The PDEA did not specify the type of drugs seized from the woman in its first public report.  SFM
