Riding a passenger bus on her way home to Naga City is something you cannot take away from Camarines Sur representative and vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo.
At least according to her.
Robredo, during an INQ & A on Facebook on Thursday, said she would “have to insist on maintaining [her] core” if she won in the May elections.
“Nakikita ko ngayon mga big-time pulitiko having a life like that. Na gusto bang sabihin hindi na ako makaka-bus? Gusto bang sabihin ’di na ako makaka-Uber o makaka-taxi,” she said. “It doesn’t follow diba?”
Robredo is known for taking a night bus from Manila to her province despite being a public official. Several netizens have posted on social media about seeing Robredo at the bus station. The last one was the owner of a taxi that drove her to a terminal.
“Naging practice lang na pag VP ka parang big time ka. You’re expected to go around with a full entourage of security people,” she said.
But Robredo said “the real challenge is to really redefine the office.”
The congresswoman, who has repeatedly mentioned the marginalized sectors in her speeches, said what the nation needed right now were accessible government officials.
“If you want to be an inspirational guide, people should relate to you,” she said. “I think it’s possible. I just have to be stubborn about it.” RC
