British woman gives birth to triplets at 55

/ 02:04 PM April 07, 2016

After two failed attempts in 2014, a 55-year-old British woman has given birth to triplets, thus becoming the oldest mother in United Kingdom (UK). She conceived the children through In-vitro fertilization (IVF) technique.

In an interview with The Sun, Sharon Cutts and her boyfriend Stuart Reynolds embraced their sons Mason and Ryan and their daughter Lily on March 21. The triplets each weighed between 2 to 3 kilograms.

Cutts, a nurse, had four grown-up children from her ex-husband of 24 years.

“It means they’ve got lots of playmates,” she told The Sun. She admitted that she has to feed 24 times and change diapers 21 times a day.

Since UK’s National Health Service administers IVF for women aged 42 and younger, Cutts had to travel to Cyprus for her IVF treatment, where the allowable age for IVF is 60 years. She knew that she will give multiple births as she requested for multiple embryos.

Reynolds was jubilant with seeing his children for the first time. “I was excited, and then bricking it. Now they’re here I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Cutts delivered the triplets by Caesarean section, after an 11-week stay in Nottingham University Hospital. Overall, the couple spent nearly £15,000 (PhP978,000) for the IVF procedure and hospital bills. Gianna Francesca Catolico, INQUIRER.net
