Today, April 7, is the 22nd death anniversary of National Artist for Visual Arts Cesar Legaspi. Born on April 2, 1917, Legaspi is a pioneer “Neorealist” in the country, best remembered for refining cubism in the Philippine context. Among his notable works are the “Idols of the Third Eye,” “Façade,” “Flora and Fauna” and “The Survivor.” He was conferred the title of national artist in 1990. Legaspi died in 1994.
