Poe didn’t get big boost from SC decision—Palace

Malacañang on Saturday said presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe did not get the big boost in survey ratings that she, her camp, and supporters were expecting from the favorable Supreme Court decision that allowed her to run for president.

“What is the most interesting is that the one candidate who was supposed to receive a big boost, or at least ‘yun ang expectation ng mga backers niya at ang ibang mga political observers—and this was Senator Poe (who) was supposed to get a big boost from the Supreme Court decision—we have noticed that this has not been the case,” Communications undersecretary Manolo Quezon said in a press briefing.

Quezon made the remark when asked if Malacañang was not worried about the latest Pulse Asia survey, where Poe was able to maintain her lead among presidential candidates and administration bet Mar Roxas trailing at fourth place.

While saying that surveys are “snapshots of public opinion,” Quezon said recent preference polls showed that the upcoming national elections can be anybody’s game.

“The real reading of all these numbers is that it would be hard for us to remember a campaign na ganito kadikit-dikit ang mga kandidato and that as you point out that time is coming close when our people will be made to decide and lahat ng mga kandidato ay nacha-challenge na paano ba nilamakukumbinsi pa,” Quezon said.

“Parang wala ng halos undecided, and when you look at it, it’s divided between the four candidates and we can only hope that candidates will not be tempted to start being irresponsible and reckless to try to break this very, very close campaign,” he added.

Voting 9-6, the high tribunal earlier voted to reverse the Commission on Elections’ decision to disqualify Poe from seeking the presidency, ruling that the first-term senator is a natural-born Filipino citizen and has completed the 10-year residency requirement. JE
