MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon—The camp of presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte scoffed at President Aquino’s recent verbal offensive against the Davao mayor, saying the administration was in “panic mode” because its candidate was trailing in the surveys.
“The barrage of criticism generated by the ridiculous characterization of Roxas as a Supertyphoon ‘Yolanda’ hero was just too much for Aquino to handle,” said Jun Evasco, the national campaign manager of Duterte. “Frightened, the President wants to deflect the attention of the public away from the shame,” he chided.
In a campaign rally for administration candidate Mar Roxas in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Mr. Aquino criticized Duterte for saying he would resign from the presidency if he was not able to eradicate crime in three to six months.
“When you are President, you don’t quit and hand the job over to your Vice President,” Mr. Aquino said.
Evasco said President Aquino and his anointed successor Roxas were very much alike—“unable to handle stress well.” Nico Alconaba, Inquirer Mindanao
