OLONGAPO CITY—-Senatorial candidates Roman Romulo and Lorna Kapunan tackled the country’s employment problem during the Radyo Inquirer “Issues Forum” here on Tuesday.
Romulo, who is running under Sen. Grace Poe’s Partido Galing at Puso, said the new administration would need to balance the “supply and demand” for workers.
“What we need right now is to have the right statistics when it comes to the number of jobless Filipinos. The lack of jobs remains a problem in this country,” Kapunan said.
She promised to work for the removal of labor contractualization and the discrimination against women in the labor sector.
She also promised to initiate a measure that would lower the cost of doing business in the country.
“The investments in our country are concentrated in Metro Manila. The new administration should consider moving our international airports outside Manila,” Romulo said.
He said the Subic free port could be one of the locations for new airports. Allan Macatuno, Inquirer Central Luzon
