Campaign sked moved a day
The campagin period for local positions will start on Black Saturday, March 26, and not on Good Friday, the Commission on Elections said.
“Local campaigns start March 25. Will you tell your partymates not to violate campaign rules?” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said on his Twitter account.
“They [candidates] should actually start campaigning March 26 because campaigning is prohibited on Good Friday,” he said.
“If anyone—ANYONE—whines how the local campaign period should be extended by 1 day ’coz it starts on Good Friday… Wala, tatawanan ko lang (I’ll just laugh it off),” Jimenez said.
Local elective positions include those for the House of Representatives, governors, mayors, provincial board members, and city and municipal councilors.
Jimenez also urged candidates and their supporters to tear down illegally posted campaign materials before March 25.
