Students, health execs mark Handwashing Day

Students in public schools and health officials in Cebu City joined in the campaign to promote proper hand-washing among the people, especially children.

Last Friday, Oct. 14, SM Supermalls in the country held a simultaneous hand-washing activity to send a message to its shoppers about the proper handwashing to prevent sickness and illnesses caused by virus.

In SM City Cebu, the event happened at 10:30 a.m. at the Event Centre.

Public schools’ students and representatives from the Cebu City Medical Center led by Dr. Gloria Duterte, Cebu City Health Department led by Dr. Fe Cabugao, Bureau of Fire and Protection, Mabolo barangay officials led by barangay captain Rey Ompoc and Lance Ortiz of 1-AASenso Foundation attended the event.

“While proper handwashing has been part of the mall’s advocacy to inform and educate its customers, even before the SARS scare (in the early 2000s), we have embraced that challenge to further step up beyond what is necessary and continuously promote good hygiene and clean living,” said Tata Mempin, assistant mall manager.

And as part of the SM Supermalls’ corporate social responsibility, health concerns are pushed at the forefront to prevent global pandemic.

The global handwashing activity was also supported by United Nations Children’s Fund, World Health Organization and Unilever.
