A candle-lighting rally will be held in Davao City on Wednesday to push the candidacies of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and his running mate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.

Duterte’s camp said the rally would be “considered the biggest political event in Davao history” as thousands of Dabawenyos were expected to attend the event.

Dubbed “Kahayag sa Pagbag-o (Light of Change),” the event encourages supporters of the Duterte-Cayetano tandem “to go out of their homes or open their windows and light a candle.”

The rally, which will be held in the Freedom Park along Roxas Avenue at 4 p.m., will coincide with the 79th founding anniversary of Davao City.

“The activity’s theme is consonant with the agenda of Duterte and Cayetano, to end the disorder and bring genuine change in the country,” the Duterte-Cayetano camp said in a statement.

In his previous speeches, Duterte vowed to stop criminality, illegal drugs and corruption in government within the first six months of his term if he would be elected.

Duterte has repeatedly said that Davao City is his “Exhibit A” in his presidential run, stressing he will replicate “the city’s meaningful legislation and accomplishments to the public.” RC
