CAVITE CITY — Two persons, one of them a minor, were killed while three others were wounded when a group of armed men fired at them in Cavite City on Sunday, police said.
Reports said Barry Barzaga and Carvin Enriquez, 16, died while being taken to the Bautista Hospital in Cavite City.
Three others — Anna Carolina, Diesamine Custodio, and tricycle driver Amador Labrica — were wounded and were taken to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila.
Supt. Aladin Tamayo, Cavite City police director, said the gunmen, who were aboard a van, attacked at 2:30 a.m. in Barangay Caridad and were apparently after Barzaga.
“Our initial investigation revealed that the suspects fired at Barzaga. He appeared to be the target,” Tamayo said in a telephone interview.
It was not clear how the other victims were related but police said they just happened to be out on the streets and were hit by stray bullets.
Tamayo said Enriquez was standing near Barzaga while Carolina and Custodio were inside Labrica’s tricycle, which was parked in the area.
He said Barzaga was a construction worker “who did not have any [criminal] record with us.” SFM
